Apartment Decorating Ideas Cheap

Apartment Decorating Ideas Cheap

Whether you have a cheap apartment you would like to decorate or whether you would like to decorate your apartment cheaply, some decorating ideas can help you to change your apartment environment into a more homey atmosphere. Purchasing inexpensive items for your apartment by no means implies that your apartment will appear cheap looking. The secret is spending your money wisely on items that will make a difference.

Window Treatments

Landlords seldom, if ever, change the window treatments in an apartment. The drapes, shades or blinds that are hanging on your windows have probably been there since the building was constructed. Take them down and replace them during your tenancy with some inexpensive vinyl mini-blinds, curtains or attractive vinyl shades in a cream or beige color.

Area Rug

If the carpeting in the apartment is looking worn and bare, purchase an area rug and place it under the coffee table in front of your couch to cover most of the living area. Home improvement stores frequently discount their previous year's area rugs and those that have been on the shelves for a long time but haven't sold. Discount retailers may have basic rugs during "off to college" sales.

Wall Hangings

Rather than selecting many small pictures and paintings for your walls, try purchasing a few large wall hangings. You can pick up a stylish patterned quilt or tapestry at a second-hand store to hang on your bedroom wall. Hang some of your collections or artifacts on the walls, such as special plates or dishes. Display your bike or guitar on the wall. This will provide you with more interesting-looking wall dcor and will also free up some space in your apartment.

Lighting

Apartment lighting usually leaves much to be desired. Brighten up the apartment with a couple of $20 metal floor lamps in colors that match your furniture. These can be purchased in almost any discount department store. For your bedroom, you can find charming, inexpensive table lamps. Pick up some large doilies at a dollar store to place under the table lamps.

Canisters

Change the appearance of your kitchen with some bright, colorful canisters to set on the countertop. Metal canisters come in a large array of colors, and you can even find them with patterns and pictures on them. Because they are relatively inexpensive, you might want to purchase more than one set. They will do wonders to brighten up your kitchen and can also be put to good use when you fill them with cookies, candies, crackers, and chips.

  1. I definitely agree on the advice to pick items wisely especially when buying in second-hand shops and/or garage sales. Always look out for items which are still in good condition or if not at least those you know you can fix and make it look like new. It's one great way of saving money as some renters do in homes like apartments in Arlington Heights IL or elsewhere in the country.
